Anne B. Ternes, 82, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on April 25, 2026. Born on February 22, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, Anne was raised in Berea, Ohio, where she developed the curiosity and compassion that would guide her throughout her life.
After graduating from American University, Anne dedicated herself to service both at home and abroad. Shortly after high school, she joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in the Dominican Republic, where she immersed herself in the local culture and became fluent in Spanish. This experience shaped her lifelong commitment to international development and community-building.
Following college, Anne worked as a field representative for the Inter-American Foundation, contributing to grassroots development efforts across Latin America and the Caribbean. After retiring from the Foundation, she settled in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she continued her service-oriented work with Habitat for Humanity. What began as a staff position grew into a deeper commitment, and Anne eventually served as a Board Member, helping guide the organization’s mission to provide safe and affordable housing.
Anne was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Ternes, who passed away in 1983. She is survived by her beloved partner, Edward Delarosa, and her stepchildren: Edward, Everett, Elizabeth Pandza, Eric, and Ellen Koslow, all of whom she cherished deeply.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Cecilia and Doris from Visiting Angels for the attentive and compassionate care they provided Anne.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Anne’s honor to Habitat for Humanity of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Anne will be remembered for her generosity, global perspective, and unwavering dedication to helping others build better lives.
