Obituary of Mrs. Anne M Gianni Zenker
Anne Marie (Gianni) Zenker of Charlottesville, Virginia, died on Saturday, November 10, 2017 at home, surrounded by family. Born February 6, 1927 in San Francisco, California, she was the daughter of Alberto and Lena (Cassisa) Gianni. She graduated with honors from Lone Mountain College in San Francisco and worked as a laboratory technician at Stanford University Hospital where she met her husband, Nicolas Zenker. Devoting herself to her family, she raised their four children in San Francisco and then Baltimore. They retired to the Colonnades in Charlottesville in 2001, where Nicolas passed away in 2006. She is survived by her four children: Paul Zenker, his wife Bernarda, and their children Kate and Nicolas, of Burnsville, Minnesota; John Zenker, his wife Kate, and their children Annette and Claire, of Charlottesville; Elisabeth Zenker and her partner Francis, of Arcata, California; Elisabeth’s daughter Rania, her partner Emmet, and their children Emmet, Elvis, Everest and Eden Rose of North San Juan, California; and Mariane Zenker and her husband Michael Parrish, of Portland, Oregon. All remember Anne as a gentle, loving person who lived her deep faith with kindness and compassion. She was a wonderful and adventurous cook, a partner with Nicolas in tennis and bridge, a crossword aficionado, mah jong player, gardener, and murder mystery fan. She made many good friends at the Colonnades including many of their amazing staff. Her family would like to thank Dr. Robert Gibson and Dr. Matthew Goodman for their excellent and compassionate care. Her family and friends will miss her and eternally appreciate her. A Celebration of Life will be held at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 5-7 pm. A faithful Catholic, her funeral mass will be held at her parish church, St. Thomas Aquinas, on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 11 am.
