Barbara Moore

Barbara was born on September 6, 1944, in Robeson Co., N.C., to the late Willard and Lily Mae Locklear. She completed three years of college before marrying her husband of almost 54 years, Bill Moore, on November 2, 1963.

Barb was an avid reader of mystery novels and loved watching mystery programs and movies. She loved to make Christmas and other holiday wreathes that she shared with family and friends. Barb was also a member of University Baptist Church.

Her leadership skills were displayed in her service as President of the Junior Women’s Club for two years. One of the best fund raisers was the "Horse Calendar" that was comprised of pictures of scenes from various stables across Albemarle County.

Barb loved sports and being a college cheerleader. She loved the Virginia Cavaliers, and even though she could no longer attend the games, she watched every time they came on the television. Barb was a talent bowler, and a member of the 200 Club, as well as the 550 club of the bowling league. She also enjoyed tennis, playing both singles and doubles.

She was loved by many friends for her sincere and honest nature. Barb was sought after for her interior design skills, as she had an eye for seeing how things should really be.

Barbara’s son, William Moore Jr., expresed the following in regards to his mother: "My mother was the rock in my corner. She was my best friend. The life experiences we shared together were unforgettable. The wisdom and advice she provided will never be lost. I remember we were in our front yard standing in two feet of snow building our first snowman. The memories I shared with my mom are priceless and unforgettable. I will cherish her memories for my remaining years."

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her two brothers, James Locklear and Jydor Locklear; and sisters, Shag Locklear and Nealess (Roscoe) Tyler.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Bill Moore; son, William Franklin Moore Jr.; grandchildren, Matthew and Hannah Moore; sisters, Ruth Ann Lineberger (Darrell), and Lummie Locklear (Fred); sister-in-law, Joy Locklear; nieces, Karen Rhodes, Kelly Puryear, Tracy Pauli, Loretta Tyler, Becky Reza, Cindy Oswalt, and Sharon Locklear; nephew Craig Locklear; and many other nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life event for the late Barbara Moore will take place Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Moore Manor, 50 Churchill Lane, Charlottesville, VA.
