

Betsy J. Kingrea, 81, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born January 30, 1944 to the late William L. Kingrea and Mary J. Kendrick in Blacksburg, Virginia. Betsy is also preceded in death by her children’s father and spouse of 27 years, James “Dan” Campbell; her second husband, Russell Burnley; her son, Philip “Pete” Campbell; and two brothers, Charlie Kingrea and Tobar Kingrea.
After graduation, Betsy dedicated years as a special education teacher at ARC before transitioning to her career at Jaunt where she worked for over 25 years. Having been born and raised in Blacksburg, Virginia, Betsy was a dedicated Hokie fan. In her spare time, she loved shopping and volunteering at the senior center in Fluvanna. Her loved ones will remember her awesome cooking and her outspoken personality; she is the woman who made her daughters the strong women they are today.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Anita Spencer (Wilton), Judy Tillman, Carolyn Martin (Wesley), and Lila Shifflett (Tony); grandchildren, Brandon Via (Jenni), Jason Goode (Christy), Melissa Taylor, Amanda Sipe, Jessica Shifflett, and David Gordon Tillman (Danielle); fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a very special nephew, Bill Kingrea (Chris); her cherished friends, Nettie Kelly (Betsy’s cook in her last few years) and Paul Nagy; as well as additional nieces and nephews and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Lebanon Church of the Brethren with her nephew, David Kingrea, officiating, 16216 Burnley Rd., Barboursville, Virginia, 22923.
