January 2, 1938 – October 9, 2026
Charles “Eddie” Edward Pugh, 88, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Raised in Covesville, Virginia, Eddie spent his working life as an automobile mechanic and proudly served his country in the United States Army.
On October 13, 1956, at just 18 years old, Eddie married Audrey, beginning a partnership that would span nearly seven decades. Together, they raised two sons, built a home, and shared a lifetime of memories. Eddie passed away just four days before what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
Eddie was a man who found purpose in being of service to others. He believed in making himself useful, and much of his love for family and friends was expressed through what he could do for them. Whether something needed repairing, building, or simply taking care of, Eddie was someone people could count on. He showed his love by being there whenever he was needed.
A self-described handyman, Eddie loved working with his hands. He took great pride in maintaining and improving his home and particularly enjoyed spending time in his workshop beneath the family room. For Eddie, there was always something worth fixing, building, or making better.
Family relationships were especially important to him. He shared a close bond with his twin brother, Billy, whose memory remained an important part of his life. One of Eddie’s greatest joys was becoming a grandfather to Memphis, his one and only grandchild, who held a special place in his heart. Eddie also shared a deeply special bond with his son Patrick. Their relationship was marked by profound love, devotion, and understanding, and Eddie took great joy in caring for and spending time with Patrick. Their connection was a treasured part of Eddie’s life and reflected the depth of his love as a father. Eddie was a member of Mount View Baptist Church and enjoyed watching church services on television with Patrick on Sunday mornings.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his mother, Velma; his brothers, Billy and Pee-wee; and his sister, Rosa Lee.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey; his two sons, Tony and Patrick; his grandson, Memphis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
During his final weeks, Eddie faced serious illness, but his family was grateful that he was able to return to the home he had loved and cared for over so many years. There, surrounded by the familiar comforts of the life he had built, he spent his final days.
Eddie leaves behind a legacy not measured in possessions or accomplishments, but in the countless ways he made himself available to the people he loved. His life was a reminder that love is often expressed most meaningfully through simple acts of service, kindness, and being there when someone needs you.
