IN THE CARE OF
Teague Funeral Service
Christine Ward, 94, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at her son’s home in Crozet, surrounded by her family.
Christine, also known as “Chris” and “Teenie”, was born on September 28, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Garrison of Doylesville, VA. Christine was predeceased by her husband, Jessie Ward. She was the youngest of 13 children and was the last survivor.
Survivors include her son Harold Ward and his friend, Carrousel; her daughter Linda and her husband, Meredith Leake; two granddaughters, Melissa and her husband, Jim Larkin, and Jennifer Ward; two great grandchildren, Ava and Jena Peters; niece, Shirley Lively; nephew Sonny Garrison; as well as other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Christine, a widow since 1967, worked very hard by herself until age 92, to maintain her beautiful home which she so cherished. She was a sales clerk at Carriage Food House (later Anderson’s Seafood) from 1979 until she retired in 2005.
A special thank you to Betty Thacker, her very dear friend and neighbor, for all the years of love and care for Christine. Also, a thank you to Vivian Merchant, her caregiver (Christine identified her as her cleaning lady because she did not want anyone to know she needed a caregiver) since August 2016, for all the love and care extended to Christine. The family would also like to thank Kelly Ottman, Hospice nurse, for the love, care and compassion.
The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 19th at the Teague Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Holly Memorial Gardens.
