

Clarence Wood, Jr., 73, of Charlottesville, VA, passed from this life to go home December 2, 2014 after an ongoing illness. He was born in Crozet, VA on December 31, 1940 to the late Clarence F. Wood, Sr. and Margaret Layne Wood. He was known to many as “Jr.” or “Junebug” and to his grandchildren he was “Paw Paw.” He was retired from ConAgra Frozen Foods where he worked 32 years. The Wood family has been members of Belmont Baptist for many years. Mr. Wood is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Janet Belew Cornell Wood; two children, a son, Timothy W. Wood and his wife Sandra M. Wood and his daughter Michelle W. Williams; four grandchildren, Jacob W. Paynter, Savannah R. Wood, Austin W. Williams, and Reannah N. Wood; brother-in-law, Donnie Thurston; two special nieces, Sandy Rea and her husband Gene, and Wanda Gayle Thurston. Other family who predeceased Mr. Wood, his grandparents George F. and Mary L. Wood and John R. and Mary Smiley Layne; and a sister, Ruby L. Thurston; and two paternal half-siblings, Warren Lee Wood and Mary E. Martin. The family would like to give a special thanks to Deb Ferrari, a therapist at Golden Living, for the care she provided to Jr. during his time there, as well as neighboring friends for their kindness over many years; Mr. and Mrs. Eppard, Mrs. Homer Martin and Mr. Paul Ebersole. The family will receive friends at Belmont Baptist Church Friday, December 5, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Belmont Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Anderson and Pastor Larry Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Belmont Baptist Church, 830 Monticello Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
