David Henry Steel

David Henry Steel, 92, of Keswick, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, December 7, 2018. Mr. Steel was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, a son of the late, Maxwell and Miriam Steel. He attended Amherst College with his education interrupted by World War II and served in the Marine Corp in the Pacific theatre. He then completed his college training to pursue a career in pharmacy. David was a successful businessman, owning three pharmacies and two gift shops eventually moving to hospital practice at Center Community Hospital in State College, Pennsylvania. He was an avid golfer, Penn State football fan, and enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. He obtained his private pilot’s license and was the family historian. After relocating, he enjoyed many years of retirement in Charlottesville, Virginia. David is preceded in death by a brother, Maxwell W. Steel; and a sister, Barbara Mesa. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joy Ann (Novotny) Steel; his children, Timothy R. Steel and his wife Susan, Jeffrey Steel and his wife Marjie, Michael S. Steel and his wife Denise, and David Steel, Jr. and his wife Darrell; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his twin sister, Patricia Steel; sisters-in-law, Diane Lancaster, and Charlotte Casey and her husband Tom; four nephews and two nieces also survive. The family will receive friends 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, Virginia. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Monticello Memory Gardens.
