David Howard Williams

He was born on November 9th, 1965 in Jackson, Mississippi where he lived until moving to Alexandria, Virginia in adolescence. He would continue living in Virginia the rest of his life, calling Charlottesville home in his later years.

He is preceded in his death by his brother, Donald Williams Jr., and his mother, Janet Collins.

He is survived by his children, Benjamin “Ben” Williams and Elaine “Lainey” Williams, his father, Don Williams, his sister, Jennifer Williams, a grandchild, and two nephews.

True to his remarkable strength, David fought hard every single day and refused to let his illness slow him down, living life on his own terms until the very end.

If you knew David, you knew he lit up every room he walked into. We all fondly remember that "big-hearted Dave energy" he brought everywhere. He never knew a stranger and would talk to anyone, anywhere, at any time with a warmth that drew people in instantly.

He had a massive passion for life: he loved to eat, loved cooking for those he cared about, and music moved his spirit deeply. As a passionate music lover, his absolute favorite place to be was dancing at a concert or a music festival.

Above all else, David's children were his entire world. Whenever he spoke of his children and granddaughter, his face would literally light up with pride and joy. He will be sorely missed by them, and all who loved him.

The family would like to thank all of his friends and especially Sophie, Pants, Ricky, Erin, John, and Yvonne. The family is grateful to the caregiving staff at UVA Health for the kindness and compassion they shared in Dave’s final moments.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Dave at Walnut Creek Park, North Garden, Virginia 22959 on Sunday, August 2nd from 10am to 4pm.

Please bring a favorite dish to share, potluck style, and come ready to swim, eat and dance to some jams. Let’s send Dave off with all the love and music he gave to us, exactly how he would have wanted.
