Denise Leigh Hensley

Denise, native to Charlottesville, Virginia, was born on December 31, 1958, to Alvin S. and Mary Ann Hicks.

Denise was a medical transcriptionist for the University of Virginia Health System, giving a staggering 45 years of service to The University.

Denise, a child of the ocean, the sands, the waves and the tides, was never happier than standing on the shores of the Outer Banks with her family held tightly in her hands.

Denise is preceded in death by her father, Alvin S. Hicks.

Denise leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved partner George C. Hensley, Jr.; their daughter Megan H. Slawski; their son Jonathan S. Hensley; her grandchildren Calla Wren Slawski and Jake S. Hensley; her mother Mary Ann Hicks and her sisters Gwen Rogoll and Ellen Hicks-Hamilton.

A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, April 1st, 2023, at 2 pm at the Slawski residence 472 Beaver Pond Ridge, Troy, Virginia 22974.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Denise's honor to the Makindu Children’s Program (www.makindu.org) , a 5013C, helping to feed, educate and care for orphaned and vulnerable children in Makindu, Kenya, since 1998.

I have lied in the sight of the ocean
