With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Dewey Lee Morris and Lillie Coleman Morris, who both departed this life on June 21, 2026. They leave behind a lasting legacy of love, devotion, family, and partnership.
True to the vows they made in 1961, Dewey and Lillie shared a remarkable journey through life—and ultimately into eternity—side by side. Having met in 1957, Dewey, 86, and Lillie, 84, built an extraordinary bond that spanned more than 68 years. Married on June 17, 1961, in Albemarle County, they created a life grounded in their unwavering love for one another and their deep commitment to family.
Dewey will be remembered for his successful career as a glass mechanic, as well as his passions for genealogy, creative mechanics, and most of all, Lillie. Lillie will likewise be remembered for her remarkable career with H.M. Gleason & Co., and for the joys she found in ballroom dancing, animals, music, and, above all, Dewey.
Together, they embodied what it means to be true partners in every sense of the word. They especially cherished the time they spent motorcycling, traveling, camping, enjoying music, socializing, and sharing meaningful moments with family and loved ones.
They are lovingly survived by their siblings: Lillie’s sister, Susie Coleman Payne of Earlysville, Virginia; and Dewey’s sisters, Scarlet Lane of Gordonsville, and Barbara Jones of Earlysville.
Together, they also leave behind 16 beloved nieces and nephews. Lillie’s nieces and nephews include Kim Branham, Tracey Payne, Laura Early, Jeff Coleman, Kevin Coleman, Shawn Coleman, and Keith Payne. Dewey’s nieces and nephews include Deborah Myers, Scarlet Kimberly Bullock, Melanie Belew, Michael Morris, Thomas Lane, Jr., David Lane, Kevin Jones, Bryan Jones, and Bruce Jones.
Dewey was born on December 18, 1939, to the late Mary Elizabeth and Ollie Morris. Lillie was born on August 1, 1941, to the late Daisy Mae and James Dabney Coleman. They were each preceded in death by beloved brothers: Lillie by Charles Dabney Coleman and Bobby Wilson Coleman, and Dewey by Charles Gene Morris and Delmer Nelson Morris.
The life Dewey and Lillie shared was a testament to the true meaning of soulmates—a love story marked by devotion, companionship, and an unbreakable bond. Family and friends are invited to celebrate their extraordinary lives and enduring love on Monday, June 29, at 6:00 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hollymead, Charlottesville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Lillie Coleman Morris to support the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
