Diana S Chambers

Diana Sue Chambers, age 96, of Charlottesville, Virginia departed this life on February 11, 2024, at her home. She was born November 8, 1927, in Anna, Illinois to Merle and Lillie Carey. She lived her young life in Bloomington, Illinois and attended Illinois State (Normal) University from 1945 through 1950 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in the Business Education Curriculum. She met her loving husband, Jackson Edward Chambers, while at Illinois State and began her married life in Bloomington, Illinois. They later moved to Marshall, Michigan and then Charlottesville, Virginia where she worked with her husband as an executive secretary at State Farm. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church and provided service in many ways, including working with the soup kitchen. She and Jack believed that "Faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life.” In addition to her faith in God and love of family, she also loved working as a librarian with the children at Greenbrier Elementary School from the mid 1960’s to the mid 1970’s. She loved reading, encouraging everyone to continue learning through books, and enjoyed talking with those around her about new authors or books they had just read. She was an avid member of Monticello Garden Club where she met many close friends and enjoyed her favorite things - socializing, friendship, and the beauty of flowers as seen all around her home.

Diana was preceded in death by the love of her life Jack Chambers, her brother Edwin Carey, and her son Carey Chambers. She is survived by her two sons, Bryan and his wife, Christa, and David and his wife, Laura, and six wonderful, loving grandchildren, Kevin, Kara, David J. and his wife, Suzie, Andrew, and Nicholas, all of Charlottesville. She is also survived by her niece Janzy Carey, the daughter of her brother Edwin Carey.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks for the care from Cate Hebert and Hospice of the Piedmont who provided very caring wonderful support throughout her peaceful transition to the heavens.

A service celebrating Diana’s life will be held at 4 pm Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 500 Park Street, Charlottesville, Virginia.
