Diane F. Hawks, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on March 15, 2018, after a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on November 26, 1961, to the late Dan Shifflett and Ruby B. Shifflett. Diane was an employee of Virginia Industries for the Blind for 37 years. She loved going on vacation to the beach and especially her favorite place, Pigeon Forge, Tenn., where she loved to sit on the bank of the Little Pigeon River and feed the ducks and geese.
She is survived by her loving husband, Herman; sisters, Jean Breeden and husband, Shirley, Carolyn Ables, and Barbara Shifflett, all of Ruckersville; brothers, Donald Shifflett and wife, Cindy of Stanardsville and Gregory Shifflett of Ruckersville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pritchard & the entire staff of the Oncology Unit at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital for the care and kindness they showed Diane over the past few years. Also many thanks to the Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Nurse Jane & the rest of the staff.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Holly Memorial Gardens by Pastor Johnny Hartless.
