

Donald “Don” Toney, 73 of Earlysville, Virginia, passed away at his home on October 2, 2025. Donald “Don” was born on June 28, 1952 in Charlottesville to the late William J. Toney and Viola Taylor Dennis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn S. Johnson and a brother, William D. Toney.
Donald “Don” was the former founder and operator of Don’s Florist & Gifts in Charlottesville for 35 years with the help of his family, employees and great customers, until his retirement in 2019, when he sold the business and retired.
Aside from being a Dad, Paw-Paw and Great-Paw-Paw, Don felt that the Florist was one of his greatest accomplishments in life and was very proud of it.
Donald is survived by his wife of 39 years, Brenda Toney, son, Donald Toney, Jr.(Tammy), daughter, Kimberly Toney (David Bishop) and step-son, Dwayne Thacker, 8 Grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey, Haley, Chloe, Brianna, Kylee, Savannah and Alyssa and 1 Great-Grandchild, Adalynn Grace. He is also survived by his two dog fur babies, Buddy & Ruby and his cat fur baby, Shy all of whom he loved unconditionally.
Donald is also survived by one sister, Jean Moss(Jerry) and three brothers, Jimmy Dennis(Angelina), Wayne Toney and William “Bubba” Toney(Virginia).
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 1pm at Riverview Cemetery, 1701 Chesapeake Street, Charlottesville, Virginia.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Nina and Julia from Hospice Of The Piedmont for their compassionate care of Donald during his last weeks.
