Doris Overton Floyd passed away at Rosewood Village, Hollymead on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Born on October 2, 1930, at Upper Brandon Plantation in Prince George County (Spring Grove, VA), she was the only child of Daisy Thompson Overton and William Bagby Overton. When she was small, the family moved to Amherst County where her father managed the dairy at Sweet Briar College.
She met Eddie Luther Floyd at a dance at Temperance and became his wife for 64 years until his passing in 2014. She is survived by his sister, Lois Shrader, and her family.
Doris was a longtime member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church and able to continue to live independently for several years after Eddie’s death due to the loving care of neighbors. After moving to Rosewood in 2019, she was comforted by the companionship of special caregivers. In addition, she was a client of Hospice of the Piedmont. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911. Hospice Chaplain David Flack will be officiating.
