Dorothy Wright MacGill, born July 5, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois died on December 9, 2014 in Charlottesville, VA. She was the daughter of Carl and Margaret Wright (deceased). She was also predeceased by her sister, Marjorie and her beloved husband and sweetheart, Robert. Two loyal and loving daughters, Carol and Janice and faithful sons-in-law Tom Zimorski and Fred Altman who tenderly cared for Dorothy over the years and surrounded her with love as she left her earthly home for heaven above. Dorothy also had two sons, Andrew (Susan) and Peter, seven grandchildren, and three great-children, all of whom she loved dearly. Dorothy’s received a degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio but she always had a passion for books. Earning graduate credits from Florida State University enabled her to become her heart’s dream; a children’s librarian. Versatile as ever, Dorothy plied her trade in the elementary, middle, and high school levels, having a high school yearbook dedicated to her! Dorothy sang in community and church choirs and in local opera companies. She was the church librarian at Dilworth United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC and oversaw its renovation and expansion with her creative ideas. She knitted hundreds of childrens’ caps for NGA and for church missions in Guatemala and sewed hundreds of childrens’ book bags and filled them with school supplies for needy children in the Charlotte area. The Linus Project benefitted from the hundreds of blankets she sewed for hospitalized children. Her hands were never still. Dorothy loved traveling with her husband in their shiny Airstream 2790 to almost every state in the Union. She treasured her affiliation with P.E.O. and was a member for almost 65 years. Many of her life long friends were her Chi Omega sorority sisters from Miami University. The family wishes to thank the wonderful and patient staff at RoseWood Village Hollymead, Innovations who so very kindly cared for our mother for the past five year. Sincere thanks also to the best physician ever-Dr. Diane Snustad. Mother always loved you.
