Dorothy Sutphin Wells, 89, of Charlottesville, entered into Heaven on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Dorothy was born on July 30, 1925 to the late Mary Elizabeth Chaffin Sutphin and William Chester Sutphin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Wells, her brother Donald Sutphin, and her sister Pauline S. Lindeman. Dorothy was a devoted wife, a caring mother, and a loving grandmother who will always be remembered for putting her family’s needs first. Dorothy enjoyed dogs, crafts, and gardening. For the past eight years, she especially enjoyed spending time with Tammy Agee. They bonded as soon as they met and Tammy became Dorothy’s devoted companion and care-giver and Dorothy “adopted” Tammy as her daughter. Dorothy dearly loved Tammy and she thought of Tammy’s husband, Charles, and their daughter, Jessica, all, as part of her family. During the past several years, Dorothy went on numerous adventures with Tammy and her family, including trips to the Bay, as well as trips to Massanutten Resort. Just three weeks ago, Dorothy chose to spend her final Christmas at Massanutten with Tammy and her family. She thoroughly enjoyed their trips and Tammy’s companionship. Dorothy is survived by her sons, W.A. Wells of Charlottesville and his companion Ellen Pollard and her daughter, Amber Johnson, and Donald Wells of Danville, VA and her grandsons, Nicholas and Zachary Wells and her former daughter-in-law Susan Stroh Wells. She is also survived by her brothers, Archie Sutphin and Charles Sutphin and her sister, Mildred S. Allen, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy’s family would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to Debbie Hurst and Heather Stewart for the love and compassion they have shown Dorothy during her time of illness, and a special thank you to Tammy Agee and her family for providing Dorothy with so much love, care, and joy for the past eight years. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Teague Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Monticello Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Medi Home Health and Hospice, 1540 Insurance Lane, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
