Ruth Ogden, of Ruckersville, Virginia, left us to go to her heavenly home and to reunite with her husband, Ken, on May 31, 2022. Her youngest daughter, Melissa, was by her side as she passed with grace and peace. Her family believes her heart desired to be united with Ken before their 73rd anniversary on June 4th.
Ruth was born to Albert and Hope Adams on November 5, 1930, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. Ruth met her adorable husband Ken in 1948 and they married the next year. They went on to have six children and are survived by Andy (Debbie) Ogden, Laura Hawkins, Diane (Ken) Burkhart, and Melissa (Rob) Liberatore. Children who passed before her are her firstborn, Ken, and her youngest Rob. Ruth is also missed tremendously by her thirteen grandchildren, each of whom she cherished; Kenneth Arkin; Joshua Arkin; Michelle Meador; Jennifer Shepherd; Ally (Mike) Tippin; Melissa Hawkins; Brittany Liberatore (fiancé Allen Andreas); Rebekah Liberatore; Matthew Liberatore; Courtney Morrison; Haley Ogden; Mackenzie Ogden; and Zachary Ogden. Ruth was loved also by her eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, many of whom have cherished memories of spending time with “Grammy & PopPop”. Numerous extended nieces, nephews, cousins also built special relationships with Ruth and have been touched by her tenderness and covered by her prayers.
In addition to being a loving mother and devoted wife, Ruth was a committed prayer warrior to anyone who asked for prayers. She was an encourager who took great joy in sending cards and notes. Even as her vision failed, she found a way to serve others in her family, church, or community. Ruth’s relationship with her Savior and Lord Jesus, was known by anyone who met her as she was not shy in sharing what the Lord had done for her, and how she had the faith of a mustard seed to move the mountains she met in life. Through the years, Ruth found Godly purpose and joy in volunteering with her churches and Christian camps; assisting with service projects in her community; and donating faithfully to charities that were dear to her compassionate heart. Ruth’s faith was an action word, she was not to be stopped in her desire to help others.
Ruth loved hymns and worship music and has left us with a list of her favorites. It would be an honor to her memory to find one and play it in her remembrance. “Because He Lives”; “Just as I Am”; “It Is Well with My Soul”; “To God Be the Glory” and “Blessed Assurance”. In the last week of her life hymns were a continual background to her transition to her heavenly home and brought peace to the caregivers who visited. We thank the staff at Rosewood Village at Hollymead for the love shown to our mother in the short time she was a resident. The staff of Medi Home Hospice has our deepest gratitude for the care, compassion, love and devotion they shared; Natasha (who could make Ruth giggle in an instant); Tomeka (who was a calming presence to us all); Savanna (who treated Ruth with dignity and compassion); and especially Bonnie (whom Ruth trusted without question and loved from the first moment).
