Sue married the love of her life, Ben Lovingood, on January 25, 1952, in Wytheville, Virginia. Their meeting was a charming tale: Ben, a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman, instantly fell in love with Sue upon seeing her, declaring her "The most beautiful woman he had ever seen." Their marriage was filled with mutual adoration and excitement, with Ben often saying he "worshiped the ground she walked on."
The family lived for many years in Wilmington, North Carolina, where Sue was active in church as a soloist and choir member and was quick to break into song even in her later years. She was an avid tennis player well into her sixties.
A woman who always saw the bright side of life, Sue found constant joy in playing with her children, to whom she was incredibly attentive. She was an active lady who loved out-walking anyone in a mall and visiting her parents near Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sue was a fierce competitor in games, delighting in teasing others when she won, a trait that brought her much laughter. Her granddaughter, "Joy" Lavone’, affectionately
called her the "Uno Queen" due for her ability to play for hours and always win. Puzzles were another beloved pastime, which she always finished, no matter their size.
In her later years, Sue was lovingly cared for by her daughter Tina and granddaughter Kim. Tina, whose heart is described as "larger than life," never left her mother's side, even during numerous hospital stays. Tina cherished her mother's laugh and smile, holding dear memories of beach trips, shopping excursions, lunches, and visits to the mall.
Her son, Adam, fondly remembered their competitive yet fun tennis matches, singing duets in the church choir, and long, special walks together. Her son, Ben, treasured their long talks and quality time, especially during her weeks-long visits to Florida, where they enjoyed St. Augustine and antique stores with his daughter, "Joy" Lavone’, and her family. Granddaughter Kim always had a special "gift" or treat for Sue, and held dear memories of Grandma taking her to the park, pushing her on the swing, and treating her to McDonald's.
Frances Sue Lovingood will be deeply missed by all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and unwavering devotion.
