

Franklin “Mack” McTier Halsey, born October 18, 1939, passed away in the arms of his family on April 14, 2016. Mack was raised in Jonesville, Virginia and always had love for this region and pride in his southwestern Virginia roots. He was the son of Frank & Margaret Halsey, brother of Marjorie Coffey, and uncle of Robert Coffey and Wynne Coffey Shelton. He graduated form Lee County High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He was a passionate lifelong Hokie, tried and true, cheering on the football team, giving generously to the Athletics Program, providing two scholarships for students in the Corps, and member of the Board of Directors and Ut Prosim Society that recognizes donors who are leaders within the community of philanthropy that sustains Virginia Tech. Mack and his wife of 38 years, Robin, raised their family in Charlottesville, Virginia where he was Co-owner of Commonwealth Properties, LLC. Mack was always involved in the life of his church, First Presbyterian, where he served as Deacon, Elder, and Chair of the Finance and Endowment Committees. He was also on the Board of Virginia Public Television, Chairman of the Board of Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge, a passionate member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, among other civic and philanthropic endeavors. He took immense pride in giving back to his community. He is survived by his wife, Robin, son Franklin McTier, jr, daughter Heather Halsey Sieg, her husband Derek, and Mack’s beloved grandson, Shepherd. He was a man well loved and his memory will be cherished forever. He was buried on April 18th in his beloved hometown of Jonesville, Va. A Memorial Service celebrating Mack’s life will be Saturday, May 7th, 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville with a reception to follow on the front lawn.
