Gary Wayne Sarkozi

Dr. Gary Wayne Sarkozi, 74, of Clarksville, Virginia passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021 in Greenville, North Carolina. He was born in Washington, DC on February 11, 1946. Gary was an avid golfer, loved to travel and lived every day to the fullest. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He began his career in the corporate arena and later joined Virginia Commonwealth University where he served as the Director of Technology and faculty member for the School of Education until he retired. Gary leaves behind his daughter Tracy Sarkozi (Larry Pullen) of Culpeper, Virginia, his sister Jeanette Sarkozi of Fredericksburg, Virginia and his brother Lewis Sarkozi (Bonnie) of New Braunfels, Texas. He also leaves behind numerous other family members and close friends including his significant other, Deborah Stroud and family of Raleigh, North Carolina and her five grandchildren who loved him so much. Also, Becky Aycock of Mechanicsville, Virginia and Dane Bingham of Clarksville, Virginia who were special friends to him for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Leigh D. Sarkozi, and by his grandmother, Margaret Walters, his parents Lewis and Margaret Sarkozi and brother, Ronald Sarkozi. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609 or BEGINNINGS for Parents of Children Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, 156A Wind Chime Court, Raleigh NC 27615. There will be a “Celebration of Life” service to be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. (virtually www.tbcraleigh.com and at the church). A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 1:00 pm, at Monticello Memory Gardens.
