Obituary of Mrs. Genevieve M Shifflett
Genevieve McDaniel Shifflett, 94, of Crozet, passed away on May 11, 2021. She was born on December 1, 1926, in Madison, Virginia, to the late Hubert L. McDaniel and Fannie Fincham McDaniel. In addition to her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse A. Shifflett Jr., her daughter Evelyn Gibson, her son William "Billy" Shifflett, her sisters Katherine McDaniel, Ruth Jarrell, and brother Eddie McDaniel. She is survived by her granddaughter, Lisa Shifflett and her fiance Mike Morris of Crozet; her grandsons Craig Gibson and his wife Amy of Keswick; Kevin Shifflett and Tonya Morris of North Garden; her great grandchildren, Kirstie Sexton and her husband Tyler of Ruckersville; Andrew Gibson and Amaya Gibson both of Keswick; Preston Shifflett, Burgundy Draper; great great granddaughter, Burklee Eppard; sister Nina Belle Sprouse of Shacklefords; and many nieces and nephews. She told us stories of her growing up on a farm and helping her father in the fields which she loved. She also carried water, chopped wood, anything a man could do, she could do just as well. She loved mowing her own grass, weed eating, and working in her flower beds and did so into her 80’s. Up until her last days, she'd tell us she wished she would feel better so she could go outside and work again. When she used to cook, she made the most delicious coconut pies, crunchy fried potatoes, sausage gravy, and cornbread. You’d never leave her house hungry. She enjoyed sitting in her chair daily watching her birds that she loved to feed. Genevieve was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, she was everything to everyone. She was caring, loving, the most sweetest, and the most strongest person you’d ever known. She fought a hard battle the past few years and especially the last few months. We know she's in a better place with no more pain or suffering. She will be greatly missed by everyone including her great grand furbaby Abby who loved her dearly. We would like to give a special thank you to her niece Carol Conley-Steppe, for staying with our grandmother when needed especially on those short notices. We also would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Deborah Campbell for the many years of excellent care. Lastly we'd like to thank Linda, Ponia, and Luke of Sentara Home Health. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 16, from 2-4pm at Teague Funeral Home, Ivy Road in Charlottesville. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, May 17, at 11am at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church in White Hall, 4524 Garth Rd, Charlottesville, with Pastor Alan Follet officiating.
