Obituary of Grace Lucille Young
Grace Young, a long-time resident of Charlottesville, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 30th from complications related to thyroid cancer after a long and full life. Grace, affectionately called Gracie, was born in Buffalo, New York to Italian immigrants Josephine and Biaggio (Mr. Jack) Arengo. She was raised in Buffalo and in 1943, while working at Union Carbide as a telephone operator, met her future husband, Richard (Dick) Young, a chemical engineer. Grace and Dick were married for more than 50 years. They moved around the United States several times as her husband’s career advanced. Grace raised five children while working as a homemaker and enjoyed her volunteer work and choir singing in the Catholic Church. Her children; Cindy Spring, Rick Young, Tim Young and Mary Beth Yeaton; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother John Arengo, and her daughter Sue Nevala. Grace’s family especially wishes to thank the kind people from Hospice of the Piedmont for their tender care during her last days. Memorials may be given at Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or The American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 401 Alderman Road, Charlottesville.
