I never had a better friend. I will miss him dearly. I love you Bert. ‘Till we meet again.

I had the privilege to be a part of Berts friends in high school who hung out and occasionally worked on Berts family farm.  Many great memories were made there.  I have distinct memory of his  particular smile.   I saw him later in life and he still had the smile and a kind heart.   I pray that his family has peace and grace during this difficult time.

My heart is heavy,  knowing Bert is lost to the world, and to the people who loved him. I have known Bert since  he was about ten years old. He was my next-door neighbor then. His mother would visit my mother, and Bert would visit with us, too. My son was just a baby then, and his gentle way of interacting and sharing  'boy' things with my son was so moving. Over the years, I relied on Bert to help with my many car problems, and those of friends, too. I  feel like he would have helped me in any way he could, and, although I didn't have to call often, it was comforting to know that he was there and willing. My heart is with his sisters and his family.  Rest well, Bert!

Prayers for you and your family. I'll always remember you as my first coach. We moved to Greenwood when I was 7 and I started school half way through first grade. At a time I felt alone and still really new to town, my mom and stepdad put me on a Peachtree T-ball team where I met Bert and Mac. It was the first team I had ever been on and finally felt like a part of Crozet! I later met Suzy, and Nick played all stars baseball with my stepbrother. 

I'll always remember Bert's love for the game and coaching. He would encourage us and teach us how to be a team. I will always appreciate the time and effort you took for each of us on the Peachtree White Sox and guidance and compassion you shared.

Bert was the first person I met when I moved to Virginia in 1972. Bert and his family were the most hospitable and welcoming people and led to us becoming fast and lifelong friends. I loved him like a brother and will always cherish the memories from the great times we shared. Your impact as a family member, father and a friend will never be forgotten. Love you buddy

I was deeply saddened to hear about Bert’s passing. 
Back in high school, we spent a lot of time together – especially on weekends when life seemed to be carefree.  We shared a lot of good times, laughter, and memories that still stick with me, even after all these years.  
My thoughts are with Nick, Barbara, all of his family, and everyone who loved him. I hope you find some comfort in knowing how many lives Bert touched, even those he hadn’t seen in years.

The passing of Bert opens a flood of emotions for me. I remember carrying him to bed when he was very young, and I will always cherish those moments with him and his family. As my next-door neighbor, I saw a lot of Bert, and the memories I have of him are warm and lasting. It is difficult to put into words the emotional impact his death has on me. My deepest condolences go out to Bert’s sisters and his family. Rest in peace, Bert.
