
Herbert Linwood Davis, 78, of Scottsville died Thursday June 26, 2014 at the home of his daughter. Born in Charlottesville on March 16, 1936 he was the son of the late Moses and Lydia Patterson Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife Mildred Juanita Davis, two brothers in law Freddie Proffitt and John Gibson. Mr. Davis was a United States Air Force veteran and was a retired mechanic with API. He is survived by his daughter Margaret Davis Marshall and her husband Jeff of Scottsville, his son Herbert “Herbie” L. Davis, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Palmyra; 6 grandchildren Lydia Quinn, Danielle Nicole and Jacob Allen Marshall, Addison Myles, Mason Cole and Jillian Grace Davis; a soon to be born great granddaughter Lexie; 3 sisters Dorothy Proffitt of Cobham, VA, Nancy Morris and her husband Glen Morris of Culpeper, VA, Shirley Gibson of Richmond, VA; 3 brothers Wayne Davis and his wife Sandy of Troy, VA, Charles Davis and his wife Linda of Charlottesville, Richard Davis of Richmond, VA. and many nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 4:00 P.M. Sunday June 29, 2014 at Holly Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jeff Villio officiating. The family will receive friends 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Sunday June 29, 2014 at First Christian Church, 3285 Keswick Road, Keswick, VA 22947 The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or in keeping with Herbert’s favorite pastime, take a kid fishing! The family would like to especially thank McKenzie Swanson for the compassion and care she gave their Dad.
