Hermione Davis Hutter went peacefully to heaven surrounded by family on January 9, 2023. She was born March 31, 1940 in Rome, Georgia to Temperance Sessoms Davis, Jr. and Emily Compton Walker, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by older brother, Temperance Sessoms Davis III, residing in Albany, GA; and younger sister, Emily Davis Oliver (Jenny) of Charlottesville.
In 1960, Hermione married a Wahoo, Chauncey Forward Hutter of Lynchburg, Virginia. We remember Hermione and Chauncey’s lifelong friends, from their first apartment on Brandon Avenue, to Bennington Court and Broomley Road. Hermione and Chauncey shared three children: son Chauncey, Jr. and twins Emily (Compton) Hutter Going and Temperance Davis Hutter.
She loved gardening, interior design and all things beautiful, with a gift for hosting gatherings of all kinds. She served as a member of The Charlottesville Garden Club and Contemporary Club. She enjoyed architecture and painting but most of all, people and her family. She was a founding member of Trinity Presbyterian Church with a strong faith and sweet personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her precious “Lunch Bunch” ladies group was always a highlight on the calendar. If you ever wonder what happened to all the funny birthday cards in Charlottesville, the “Lunch Bunch” ladies are hoarding them.
Hermione battled hard and miraculously won as a two-time cancer survivor. She loved to cook and share her amazing soups, serving casually in the kitchen with gentle conversation or roaring laughter.
Preceded in death by her parents, Hermione is survived by her husband, brother, sister, three children and their spouses, John Mark Going, Karen Tweedy Hutter, Joan Elizabeth Clifford Hutter, and eight grandchildren: Chauncey Forward Hutter III (married to Madison Lambrich Hutter), Walker Clifford Hutter, Kaley Elizabeth Hutter, Preston John Hutter; Hermione Grace Going, Sarah Catherine Going; Emily Rose Hutter (Emma), and Julia Davis Hutter.
The family warmly thanks all Hermione’s friends and extended family for the amazing kindness and love shown. May God bless you richly with every blessing!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia. All are welcome.
