Ines was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to the late Carlos and Ines Grier, with Scottish, British, and Belgian heritage. She and her children moved to the United States in May 1965 to join her husband, Richard Bruce Fenn, who had relocated a few years earlier for a marketing position in New York City.
After the passing of her husband, Ines worked at London Fog in Passaic, New Jersey, before becoming the Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Sales at Goya Food, Inc., with offices in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Secaucus, N.J.
From her early beginnings, her sheer inner strength and disciplined character was ingrained by her parents, as her father always taught her to “do her duty.” At a young age, our mother spoke three languages fluently: Spanish, French, and English. She was taught various forms of needlework and made her own garments, took ballet lessons and used to love dancing Scottish jigs, and listening to classical music. Mom also volunteered together with her family and other families of the English-speaking community in assisting Allied soldiers who were passing through the Province of Mendoza in Argentina and were returning back to England during WWII.
Ines was a devoted and faithful Christian, embodying kindness, compassion, and understanding in all she did. She volunteered to take care of young children at the orphanage in Mendoza where she eventually met her husband and his brother who resided there. She also played an active role in the lives of her grandchildren, caring for them as babies and beyond and helping them with many everyday tasks, like teaching them to tie their shoes.
Ines was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Carlos Grier, her husband Richard Bruce Fenn, and her son Richard John Fenn.
She is survived by her son, Federico Edgardo Fenn-Grier (Viviana); her daughter, Silvia Ines LaRue (Richard); and her grandchildren, Giselle Mercedes Bovea, Stephan Richard LaRue, and Danielle Kate LaRue. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Alice Leyla and Daniel David Bovea.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff, nurses, and CNAs at Albemarle Health and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the Hospice of the Piedmont team, for their loving care and support. Special thanks also go to Ivy Gray for her unwavering dedication and love, and to the residents and dear friends at the nursing home.
A formal service to honor Ines will be held at Buck Mountain Episcopal Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, VA.
