James J. Hicks, (Jim) 92, born in Charlottesville, VA, on April 8, 1933, was called to his heavenly home on June 30, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Hicks, mother Phyllis Marsh Hicks Lewis, and brother Dewey Hicks. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Hicks, 3 daughters, Sharon Stafford, (John), Donna Hicks, Brenda Hicks, a sister, Connie Glover, of Landown, VA, and several nieces and nephews.
He lived a long, fulfilled life. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was discharged with a Purple Heart, and The Korean Service Metal with 2 Bronze Service Stars.
He was then a salesman and truck driver for the rest of his adult working life.
After his retirement, he started yard working and gardening. Later, he began woodworking in his workshop making birdhouses of all sorts, but especially blue bird houses.
He was a devoted member of Meadows Presbyterian Church for 62 years and served as a Deacon and “jack of all trades.”
A Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 10th, at 11:00 am, at Meadows Presbyterian Church, 2200 Angus Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901, with Pastor Terri Luzynski officiating.
