

James Barry “Jim” Skidmore passed away on October 15 2025 at the age of 68 in his home of Charlottesville, VA. Born on October 28 1956 in Brooksville, PA, Jim was the son of Ronald and Joyce Skidmore (McAfoos).
Jim worked as a service technician and master mechanic, serving the Commonwealth of Virginia for more than four decades. He was dedicated and knowledgeable in his craft, with a known reputation for his honesty and devotion. He was a lifelong fan of the Washington Football Team, which he lovingly called “The Commandos”, never missing a game. He loved all things racing and motorcycles.
In January of 2023, Jim survived two major heart attacks and several surgeries to prolong his life. He was cared for by the Intensive Cardiac team at University of Virginia Medical Center, where he made a great recovery and discovered a new lease on life. He spent the remainder of his days exploring things he had never seen before.
Jim is survived by his children, Sarah Rose Skidmore and Devin James Skidmore, his daughter-inlaw, Emma Herring, and his siblings, Elizabeth Graham, Joseph Skidmore, Margaret Skidmore, Edith Banks, and Kathleen Rougeux.
Jim’s memorial service will be held in tandem with his mother, Joyce’s, service at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Rd., Walkersville, MD on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 2:00pm.
