

James Leroy Skilton, 88, went to be with the Lord Saturday,July 16, 2016, at Morningside Assisted Living in Charlottesville.Born to Halsey White Skilton, Sr. and Henrietta Frances Cook Skilton in Waterbury, Conn., Mr. Skilton attended school at Block Island, R.I., and graduated from James Morris High School in Morris, Conn. He then finished his education at the Universities of Connecticut and California. Moving to Washington, D.C., and then to northern Virginia, he worked for the Bureau of Public Records, later the Federal Highway Administration.He married Verlay May Swanson of Orleans, Nebr. on June 25, 1975. He retired in 1990, and they moved to Charlottesville, Va. in 1996. Born again on June 13, 1964, he was a member of Barcraft Bible Church in Fairfax, Va., and Alliance Bible Church, and later Crossroads Community Church in Charlottesville.He was predeceased by his wife, Verla; his sister, Silvia Agnes Woodward; and his brother, Halsy White Skilton, Jr. He is survived by his brothers, Douglas Ellsworth Skilton, and Louis Albert Skilton of Morris, Conn.; and his sister, Mary Margaret Barker of Bantam, Conn.A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, July 21, 2016, 11 a.m.at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville. A burial will be held later at Morris Cemetery in Morris, Conn.
