Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Jane was the last child of Chris Hall Jamison, Sr. and Lottie Renick Jamison. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Chris, Charles, and Clark Jamison, and Angie Jamison Laing.
Jane dedicated her life to the care of others, graduating from the Roanoke Hospital School of Nursing (1951) and the University of Virginia (1955). A compassionate caregiver, she served as a registered nurse with a special interest in oncology and geriatrics until her retirement at age 62.
Jane was known for her nimble wit and her unwavering devotion to her family and many friends. After retiring from nursing, she pursued genealogy with great enthusiasm, tracing many family lines to the colonial era.
Some of her most meaningful contributions were the establishment, alongside her late husband, of the Jonathan Davis Scholarship and Davis Family Funds at James Madison University. Created in memory of their son, the funds continue to provide financial support to students in the Graduate Psychology Program with special emphasis on suicide prevention, suicide awareness, PTSD, and advanced studies in mental health counselor education.
Through her professional contributions, her historical research, and her many years of dedicated friendship, she leaves an indelible mark on Charlottesville and the many lives she touched.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Martin Davis, and son, Jonathan Davis. She is survived by her five nieces and four nephews, as well as a cherished circle of friends who enriched her life immeasurably and became her chosen family: Becky Williams, Liz Browne, Martha and Riley Carroll, the Dodsons, Patricia Wilkinson, Tomas Serrano, Bill and Faye McAnulty, the Brands, the Egglestons, Lynn Washington, Billy Williams, Joyce Lesich, and the Noggles. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of resilience and compassion remains.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Jane's honor on May 30, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at her home. Friends and family are invited to gather for an afternoon of sharing good memories and good food as we celebrate a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Davis Family Scholarship at James Madison University (c/o JMU Foundation, 1031 Harrison Street, MSC 3603, Harrisonburg, VA 22807).
