Janice M Mohn

Jan was born in October 1946 in Takoma Park, Maryland, to Charles F. McKnight and Ruby (Harding) McKnight. She lived on Longfellow Street in Washington D.C. until she was nine years old. Her family shared the house with her beloved aunts and was full of music, singing and laughter.

Jan’s parents moved with her and her sister, Linda, to the Crestwood neighborhood in Springfi eld, VA, where Jan later graduated from Lee High School in 1964. Jan then attended the Washington School for Secretaries, later becoming the Administrative Secretary to the President of Nasdaq. During this time she lived in Arlington, VA where she met John. They were married in Springfield, VA in 1974.

Following John’s Navy orders, they enjoyed living in New Port, RI, San Diego, and Long Beach, CA, before landing in Fairfax, VA where they lived for 34 years. After being a regular volunteer and presence at her daughters’ elementary school, Jan returned to work in Fairfax County Public Schools as a Student Information Assistant. She worked in this role at Little Run Elementary School for sixteen years, retiring in 2014. The close community at Little Run was something she loved and she maintained those friendships for years following.

In 2017, Jan and John moved to Charlottesville, VA to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. She lived within walking distance of all four of her grandchildren and got to watch them all graduate from preschool, start into grade school, and participate in numerous sports and activities. Of course, she made each birthday and holiday extra special for them.

Jan is survived by her two daughters, Carrington E. Crabbe and husband Alan, and Christina M. Schauder and husband Bryan; her cherished grandchildren, Ava R. Schauder, Wesley M. Schauder, Brindley E. Crabbe, and Hayden J. Crabbe; and her sister, Linda S. McKnight, all of Charlottesville VA. She is preceded in death by her husband John G. Mohn and parents Charles F. McKnight and Ruby (Harding) McKnight.

Service and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date not yet determined.

Above all, Jan will be remembered for her warmth, her humor and her ability to make every event so beautiful and special.
