She also leaves her cousin, Neda Jenkins, best friend of 40 years, Elna Collier, and her special grandchildren, Greg and Libby Robertson, Kristina Pinder, Kandice, Kevin, Erin, and Matthew Layton, Amy Treadwell, Baby Kristen, and all who called her “Grandma Jean” or “Momma Jean.” Also, many friends she considered her family, Joanne Robertson, Buck and Laura Jones, and Winston and Linda Layton. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Western Albemarle Rescue, Crozet Family Medicine, and the University of Virginia Medical Center. In 1968, a traveling evangelical preacher came to a little southwestern Virginia coal mining town called Dante, and held a ten-day revival. He had a son who was just home from Vietnam, and that son could really play a piano and sing. At the end of the revival, Bobby had a few more months to finish his service, and he would be back for another revival with his Dad. At the end of this second revival, Jean and Bobby stood in the kitchen and announced that they were getting married the next week. That marriage lasted until the Lord took Bobby home in 2006. Everybody loved Jean and Bobby. Jean Graduated from Castlewood High School in 1966. Although she never had a college degree, she was one of the smartest people one could have ever known. She worked at Morton’s, Acme, Health Services Foundation, and retired from the University of Virginia to take care of her grandchildren in 2007. In her free time, she enjoyed crafts, sewing, photography, and sightseeing on the Skyline Drive. She was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching college sports with her family. She was creative and imaginative. She spent many Christmas Eves putting together complicated toys, just to see the delight and joy in the eyes of a child. She would sit in the floor for hours on Christmas Day and play with children under the tree. Many little girls went to church on Easter morning wearing a new dress because Jean decided to make them something special. Jean gave her heart to the Lord at a very young age, and has always worked faithfully with children’s ministry, choir, dramas, and everywhere else she was needed at the church. She was a member of Valley Covenant Church of God in Waynesboro, Virginia, and was very supportive of Advancing Native missions. She said that God gave her the gift of giving hugs. Often, she would walk up to someone and say that she thought they needed a hug. She would call people randomly just to see how they were doing. Jean’s quiet laughter, sweet smiles, encouraging words, and warm hugs will be missed. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Wednesday April 3, 2019 at Teague Funeral Home 2260 Ivy Rd. Charlottesville VA 22903. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Valley Covenant Church of God, 2910 W.
