Jeannette Bunyea

Jeannette Ann Bunyea (Jeannie), age 66, of Davenport, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after a long fight against pancreatic cancer. She was born on March 25, 1960 in Savannah, Georgia. Jeannie is preceded in death by her parents, Wells and Jane Bunyea, brothers Clifford (Cliff) and Matthew (Matt) Bunyea, uncle Joseph Osbourn, Sr, cousin Joseph Osbourn, Jr. (Joey), and her great nephew Tyler Bunyea. She is survived by her daughter, Adrienne Carter and her husband Garrett, daughter Alison Smith, daughter Sarah Jane Smith, and five grandchildren: Mekiah Morton, Norah Mead, Caroline Carter, Luke Carter, and Virginia Carter.

Jeannie is also survived by sisters-in-law Diane Bunyea and Doris Bunyea, niece Kelly Smoker and her husband Philip, nephew Brandon Bunyea and his wife Antonia, great nephews William Bunyea and his wife Luca, Mason Bunyea, Grady Bunyea, great niece Lily Bunyea, aunt Darline Osbourn, uncle Fred Osbourn and his partner Jeanne, cousin Wade (Rusty) Osbourn, and many other extended family members and friends that felt like family.

Jeannie grew up and spent most of her life in Virginia, where her love for the water began at an early age. She loved being a part of Girl Scouts with her mom who served as a troop leader. Jeannie was always nursing a wild animal back to life, whether it be a squirrel, raccoon, or skunk! She adored her two older brothers and could often be found with Matt and his soulmate Diane, whether it be boating, camping, antiquing, or going to the family cabin in WV.

Jeannie was a sharp and dedicated worker, and made lasting friendships with co-workers throughout her work career.

Jeannie loved her family most of all, including her grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of her life. She spoiled them whenever she could and was fondly referred to as “Grammy” or “Grammy Jeannie.” She loved reading them stories, playing games with them, watching them play sports, and stealing hugs from them when she could.

If you knew Jeannie, you would know that she had the most generous (and stubborn) spirit. She would never take no for an answer and would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. Always willing to listen and offer a helping hand, she meant more to those around her than she probably even realized during her time on earth. Even during hard times, Jeannie remained faithful to the Lord and always put her daughters first. Although she will be missed by many, her kind and bright spirit will live on through her loved ones and those she cherished most.

There will be a celebration of Jeannie’s life at a grave-side ceremony on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10:00am Ivy Creek United Methodist Church, 684 Woodlands Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901, followed by a meal and visitation with the family at Bethel Baptist Church at 5401 Watts Passage, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

The family would like to thank Jeannie’s doctors and staff at Orlando Health, especially the nurses at Cornerstone Hospice House in Clermont, Florida, for the loving care they provided her during the end of her life.
