Judy was a valued member of The Center including a term on our Board of Directors after her Opera tenure.  I always appreciated her wisdom gleaned from years of experience in our Charlottesville nonprofit community.

When the fledgling Ash Lawn opera company formed itself into an organized board, I was one of its early members and for a number of those years served as its president.  That transition had its own set of organizational issues to work through while at the same time Judy had artistic and musical issues to work through for each season.  I was continually amazed at her ability to handle those matters to a successful conclusion for each season.  Her dedication and devotion to that operatic effort brought a unique musical experience to the Charlottesville--Albemarle community, and for that all of us are thankful for what she was able to do.  I was grateful for the opportunity to work with Judy in those earlier years, and to be able to appreciate what she did for this community.

Your mother brought the beauty of operatic music to Charlottesville.   Ash Lawn Opera was a unique experience.  I have happy memories of bringing my daughter, Ann, when she was only 4.  She was entranced, and it began a love of music for her. A child could eat M&Ms, disturbs no one, and learn to love great music. The last act of Don Giovanni is still her favorite.  Rest in peace, Judy.

Such a giving, thoughtful, clever, resourceful lady, Judy was a true friend to me when I needed it the most.   I will always be grateful and thankful for her friendship.    Stephanie Hathaway Brickhouse
