Obituary of Katherine Bernice Garrison
Katherine Bernice Garrison, 87, of Browns Cove, passed Friday evening, September 7, 2018 at her home. Born July 20, 1931, in Blackwells Hollow of Albemarle County to Lena M. Ruebush and Morgan Jesse Garrison, she was the youngest of eight and the last surviving sibling. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Clay Garrison and her son-in-law, Steven W. Taylor. She is survived by her three daughters, Lucy M. Garrison, Lena Gayle Garrison, and Lori Ann Taylor; her grandchildren, Jason P. Frazier, Jessica M. Frazier, Ryan V. Taylor, Joel Burgess-Taylor, great grandchild Vera Jane Smith, and sister-in-love Betty Shiflet. Katherine (her preferred name) was known by Bernice during the majority of her life. She worked as a draftsman/printer at Acme Visible Records in Crozet and later in Louisa. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend to many. There are many she held dear in her heart and prayed for. Susan Fitzgerald, Lea Murray and Chrisy Toman are among her “chosen” children and grandchildren. From a large family, she is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She wished to mention in particular, nieces Anna Kerns, Juanita Horton, Tammy Thornton, Ruth E. Good, Ann Yeagley; nephews Elwood Morris, Richard M. Garrison, Lacy W. Garrison, Richard C. Garrison, great nephew Adam Garrison and cousins Gregory Bruce, Linda Hale and Larry Lamb. Her services will be held at Prize Hill Chapel and Cemetery, 3291 Boonesville Road, on Tuesday, September 11th at 4:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, 7420 Mission Home Road in Boonesville. The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care of Dr. Seki Balogun and her staff, Dr. Shu Man Fu and his staff, the staff of the Hospice of the Piedmont, for the many years of devotion by the staff (past and present) of the Hillsdale branch of the Jefferson Area Board of Aging (JABA), and her pharmacist Jill of Kroger Pharmacy on Hydraulic. The family request that any memorial contributions be made to either the Jefferson Area Board of the Aging, 674 Hillsdale Drive, #9, Charlottesville VA 22901 or the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville VA 22911.
