It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lucian P. Fabiano on August 17, 2022. He is survived by his wife Olwen, his children Joseph, Eleanor, Elizabeth and his granddaughters Brianna, Chiara and Tessa.
His greatest joy was his family and he was so proud of Joe, Eleanor and Elizabeth. He couldn’t wait to share their successes and went over and above to support them in times of need. He never failed to check in with them by asking them how they felt inside. He had his rules but after all he was the Captain of his ship. He had a special knack of knowing when a child was about to stray off course and would intervene in time to save the day. Again and again the children wanted to know “How did he know? He made sure that the family came together for special occasions and traveled to Connecticut at Christmas time for many years to maintain connections with family there.
Phil particularly enjoyed traveling in his RV and drove across the country twice and took many trips up and down the East Coast. His favorite place to visit was Nova Scotia and the family spent many happy summers there camping in one of the many RV’s he owned throughout his life.
He was a DIY expert and completed many projects including building a garage, remodeling two kitchens and his final project was to remodel the entire house he lived in here in Charlottesville.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and had a way of making light of difficult situations. He will be remembered for bringing Donuts to the school bus stop to celebrate a student’s birthday. When children came to visit they were greeted with an ice pop or ice cream. He volunteered many times in the classroom and often went on field trips with his children. He never stopped encouraging children to work hard at whatever they were doing. His friends respected him for his integrity, his ability to solve problems and look at the big picture, his ingenuity and his great love for his family. In turn he was loved by many including his extended family in Ireland.
The family would like to thank the UVA Cancer Center in particular Dr. R. Hall and his team, for giving us precious time with Phil. The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont, in particular Jessica Davis, for providing support and comfort in Phil’s final days. Nothing was too difficult for them and there was always somebody to talk to no matter the hour.
He will be missed.
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sunshine warm your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand
