Obituary of Maddox Donovan Roadruck
Maddox Donovan Roadruck passed away on the morning of April 17 at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital in Charlottesville. Born May 10, 2016 to Matthew David Roadruck and Karen Espiritu Tolentino in Norfolk, he was the fraternal twin to Mason David, and little brother to Carys Rosalina. At 20 weeks gestation, a severe congenital heart defect was discovered during a routine ultrasound. Upon further scans, Maddox was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome which leaves the left side of the heart severely underdeveloped and unable to pump blood throughout the rest of the body. Despite this CHD, it did not dampen his spirit or strength. Throughout his life, Maddox endured many medical procedures and infections and his fair share of ups and downs, but he always bounced back. He made friends while in the hospital, and also gained new extended family members consisting of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, speech and occupational therapists and volunteers. His big, bright, beautiful eyes and contagious smile lit up the room whenever people walked in. He loved playing in his bouncer, sleeping in his mamaRoo swing, mouth care, shaking his head “no” to everything, eating popsicles as often as he could, drinking water from a cup and kicking his feet wildly. Maddox was an amazing and strong soul that took all the things thrown at him in stride. In addition to his parents and siblings, Maddox is survived by his maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will hold a memorial service in Maddox’s honor in Norfolk at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gracie's Gowns, P.O. Box 1446, Spotsylvania, Va. 22553 or to the UVA Fund/UVA Children's Hospital, Alumni Hall, P.O. Box 400331, Charlottesville, Va. 22904 (memo line: PICU).
