Melissa Lynn Grady

She is survived by her daughters: Ashley Graves (Michael), Carlie Grady (Maurice), of Charlottesville, VA, a brother Carl Shortridge (Wendy), of Ruckersville, VA, and a sister Lisa Shortridge (Anthony), of Ivy VA, and her half siblings. A special grand daughter, Lucy. Two nieces Jordan Skyes (Kody) of Ruckersville, VA, and Caitlin Shortridge, of Charlottesville, VA whom she adored and was very proud of and several special people that felt like family whom she loved dearly.

She was a loving mother and an exceptional sister.

She found joy spending time and caring for her grand dog Gizmo and grand cat Pixie.

Melissa (Mel) worked in the restaurant industry for many years where she formed lasting friendships and special bonds. She had a strong work ethic, she believed in showing up everyday (on time of course) she would say “If your 15 minutes early your late.” She always gave one hundred percent at work and in her personal life.

In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, hosting holidays, watching movies, watching countless hours of re-runs of “The Golden Girls” and “Friends.” She loved to dance; we are pretty certain you are dancing now!

She will be remembered for her giving nature, infectious smile and contagious laugh. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her and loved her.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the medical staff in the Neurology Department at the University of Virginia Hospital for the exceptional medical care and for their compassion.

Private services will be held under the direction of Teague Funeral Home.
