I am so sad to hear of Mike Heivly's passing. He was such an impactful professor and cared so much for his students.

I remember his sense of humor most of all. The first day of class, he gave us all a long reading list of books he said we had to read.  By the second day of class he had scared off so many students with that and said, " That's better, we have the people willing to work left. I wasn't going to make you read all of those books!" His humor was a light to us as students.

He taught my favorite medium, printmaking, and was always there when I hit a roadblock or couldn't get the results from a print I was looking for. I appreciate all of his guidance through the years. He truly is unforgettable and will be missed.

It was not only an honor to have Mike as a professor, it was a profound pleasure. His sense of humor and somewhat, well, "different"method of teaching (it involved a lot of chocolate chip cookies) were delightful. I always looked forward to attending his class. But best of all, when I was going through some very bad times, he was there for me as a big brother and did a splendid job of helping me through. So long, Mike. And thanks.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing.  I taught with him for many years at Cal. State University, Bakersfield.  Teaching with Mike was amazing because he had such a great sense of humor and such a fine sense of the absurd.   He will certainly live on in my memory, and in that of many of his students!
