

Mildred Elizabeth James Chapman “Nanny” passed away at her home in Crozet on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Millie (82) was born on August 9, 1931 in Culpeper County, the daughter of the late Alvin Judson James and Julia Emma Estes James of Korea, Virginia. Besides her parents she was predeceased by one daughter, Mildred Susan Chapman Henschel; and by her siblings; Robert (Elizabeth) James, Braxton (Katie) James, Rebecca (Jimmy) Harrup, and Judy (Bob) Chandler.
Millie leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 63 years, Jacob Howard Chapman of Crozet; one son, Christopher Howard Chapman and his wife, Sherry, of Rustburg, one daughter, Jamesly (Jamie) Emolive Chapman of Crozet; one son-in-law: Dieter Henschel of Esmont; three granddaughters: Dietra Susan Henschel of Esmont, Tiffany Elizabeth Chapman of Crozet, and Christine Grace Chapman of Rustburg; one grandson: Erich Jacob Henschel and his wife, Allyson, of Crozet; two great grand-daughters: Reily Paige Henschel and Peyton Suzanne Henschel of Crozet; and one great-grandson: Aksel Jacob Henschel of Crozet, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Millie was a member of Mooreland Baptist Church in North Garden, where she taught Sunday School, Sunbeams, GA’S and CA’S, was a member of the WMU and the choir, and brought many children to VBS each summer. She graduated from Culpeper High School in 1948 and UVA in 1973 after attending Madison College for two years. She retired from Albemarie County Public Schools in 1980.
A graveside service will be conducted by Reverend Jillian Andrzejewski at Holly Memorial Gardens at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014.
