Mildred Yates Gibson

Mildred “Mitzie” Yates Gibson age 78 passed away on November 22, 2025 at her home in Standardsville, VA after a valiant battle with cancer.

Mitzie was born on May 1st 1947 in northern Virginia to Harold Yates and Mildred Yates. She completed her GED and later worked for VDOT. She spent over 30 years in VDOT before she ultimately retired.

Mitzie is survived by her siblings: Taylor Yates, Mike Hoskinson, Nancy Yates, Brenda Seibring; children : Wayne Thomas(Sandra Shifflett), Rose Thomas ( Ronnie Dudley), Katy Morris( N.H. Morris), Cindy Gibson; Grand Children: Mason Pritchett(Daniela L.R), Jessica Herndon Payne, Trenton Morris, Tiffany Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Frankie Thomas; Special friends: Sue Kennedy, Alberta Dodson; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mitzie was a huge animal lover. She especially liked horses and cats. She enjoyed going to the beach every year with her family. She loved talking and socializing with everyone she met. She never met a stranger that she wouldn't talk to. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that was in need. Mitzie was warm and kind hearted. She was a light to everyone around her. She was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on the 11th of December at 11 am at Grace Episcopal Church located at 5607 Gordonsville Road, Keswick ,Virginia 22947.
