Odelle Snow Smith of Earlysville, Va. 98 passed away July 8th 2026. She was born June 2, 1928 to the late George and Effie Snow, She is survived by her loyal and adoring husband of 57 years, Marcus Edwin Smith of Earlysville, Va., daughter Donna Snow Batten of Earlysville Va., her Grandson’s Chad (Erin) Batten, Stacey (Katie) Batten and her “Little Woman” her cherished great granddaughter Hattie Batten.
She was a proud woman, proud of her family whom she loved fiercely and faithfully. You rarely ever saw her without Donna by her side. Whether it was on one of her favorite shopping trips, lunches out or their church pew. Her Grandsons were her pride and joy. Making sure everyone knew it was part of her daily life. She carried them on adventures, Chad shared her love for that and would say those were some of his most favorite times, just he and Nanny and Grandaddy. Without question one of her proudest moments was watching Stacey give his first sermon, saying she knew all along he was born for it. She always made sure to love them equally even down to the penny at Christmas. She had many special family members including Pete and Florence Bruce, special nieces and nephews including her favorite breakfast family Willy and Ronnie Snow, Mike and Mary Snow, Barbara Cotrell and her special niece and favorite phone caller Trudy Wyant.
She was proud of her work ethic, and she spent 40 years pouring that into her job at the Comdial plant where she rose up through the ranks to management by the end of her career there. A place where she met her Marcus. His love and devotion to her was unmistakable, whether it was taking her anywhere she wanted to go and making sure she was the first to arrive, being the best purse holder, putting up the Christmas lights that brought her so much joy or the love and support he showered her with daily. No better match was made when God put the two of them together.
She was proud of her faith. Our Nanny never let a Sunday go by without bringing you home the Church paper and letting you know you missed a good service if you had not made it. She loved her Evergreen Church family dearly. A special thank you to Betty and Jimmy Morris and Bill and Jane Tomaine for their care and support through the years. She spent endless hours creating thousands of blanket squares, bags for school supplies and her strong beautiful hands crocheted pocket prayer shawls that have been given to people throughout the world. We have carried those shawls in our pockets through the most trying of times and there is no question the love and faith poured into them will always surround us. The family would like to request that if you have the honor of having one of those in your possession would you bring it with you if you plan to attend the services.
Our Odelle and Nanny was a faith filled force. She never left the house unless it was in style, she never stopped wearing a heel, never had a hair out of place, beautiful nails and always dressed to the nines. She set an example for us all in her faith, her style, her great love of her family and we will miss her at every family dinner, every holiday she loved and provided for us and every Sunday.
