Pamela Sue Peterson Schoolcraft, age 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the University of Virginia Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer and secondary complications. Born April 19, 1956, Pam was a longtime resident of Keswick, Virginia.
Pam was the beloved wife of Rick Schoolcraft, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Together they built a loving family that remained the center of her life. She is survived by her husband, Rick; her daughter, Amy Berry and husband Edward; her son, Stephen Schoolcraft; and her cherished grandchildren, Aidan and Kenton. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Dewitt Sr. and Betty Doris Marshall Peterson, and by her brothers, Lawrence Dewitt Peterson Jr. and Harold Peterson.
Pam dedicated her career to serving others, offering steady care and consideration in every role she held. She spent the first half of her career with Centel and Sprint, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She later joined the Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA in the Department of Radiation Oncology, where she became a familiar and reassuring presence to countless patients and families. With warmth, compassion, and a genuine smile, she welcomed those beginning their cancer journey, making sure the candy dish was always filled, the lobby thoughtfully decorated for holidays, and every person who walked through the doors felt seen, comforted, and cared for.
Outside of work, Pam found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time at the beach, admiring beautiful flowers, and exploring new places. Some of her happiest moments were spent on weekend adventures and yearly vacations with her daughter, Amy, and grandson, Aidan. Whether attending a sporting event, school activity, or another special milestone, Pam could be counted on to be there—present, proud, and wholeheartedly supportive of her children and grandchildren in their interests and accomplishments.
Above all, Pam gave of herself freely, consistently placing others before herself. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her, and they remain her enduring legacy. Though she will be profoundly missed, those who loved Pam find comfort in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared so generously throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pam’s memory to the cancer or brain hemorrhage research organization of your choice. Through continued research and greater understanding of these diseases, it is their hope that fewer families will have to endure the heartbreak of losing someone they love.
Private service will be held at a later date.
