Peggy Ann Johnson

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peggy Johnson, who passed away peacefully in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the age of 74. Peggy was born on April 24, 1952, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Peggy dedicated more than 30 years of her life to caring for and educating children as the proud Owner and Director of ABC Preschool. What began as a career became a true calling. Through her years at ABC Preschool, Peggy touched the lives of countless children, families, and co-workers. Her dedication, compassion, patience, and love created a lasting impact that will continue to live on in the many lives she influenced.

Peggy was not simply the owner and director of ABC Preschool—she was a loving presence, a mentor, a friend, and someone who genuinely cared about the children and people around her. Her legacy will be remembered through the generations of children who grew under her care and the many people who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Johnson; her father, Jessie Shifflett; her mother, Viola Shifflett; and her sister, Melissa Mahon.

She is survived by two sisters and their husbands. Elanor Kidd, and Wilbur Kidd and May Taylor and husband Doug Taylor, one Brother Charles Shifflett and Wife Margaret Shifflett. One son, Duane Johnson, and his fiancée, Abigail Lopez; her special grandson, Jessie Johnson; and Special Long Time Friend Ian Buchanan, along with extended family, friends, former co-workers, and the countless children and families whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.

The family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Trinity Hospice for the compassionate, loving, and exceptional care they provided to Peggy during her final months. Their kindness and support will never be forgotten.

Peggy's life was one of love, dedication, and service to others. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, former co-workers, and in the many children whose lives she helped shape.

Rest peacefully, Mom. Your love, your kindness, and your legacy will live on forever.
