Rachel (Richmond) Richardson

Rachel was born on December 15, 1949 in Arnett, West Virginia to Mildred Richmond (Estep) and Dallas Richmond. She was the oldest of the Richmond children, and second oldest daughter of Mildred's 7 children. Rachel met and fell in love with fellow West Virginian Larry Richardson while he was home on leave from the U.S. Army. They got married soon after and traveled wherever the military sent them. Rachel loved to travel and enjoyed living in Colorado, Washington State, and especially Germany. She loved everything she discovered about German culture and cuisine. She and her husband Larry were in a bowling league and played competitively. Rachel was athletic in her youth and loved to run in Germany. She signed up for many races and took home medals.

Rachel loved children and was thrilled to care for her nieces and nephews at home as well as children of other services members abroad. She was a mother figure to so many kids, but longed for her own more than anything. God finally granted her wish after she and Larry returned home to West Virginia, and on February 19th, 1982, her only child, Jonathan, was born.

Rachel loved to go out to eat with friends, see movies, and go shopping for gifts for her loved ones. She was happiest around her family, especially her two grandbabies. Rachel had a competitive spirit and loved playing any game, from monopoly to gin rummy. She always played to win.

Rachel is preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Dallas Richmond; and her husband, Larry Richardson. She is survived by her son, Jonathan Richardson and his wife Jennifer; grandsons Asher and Elias Richardson of Palmyra, VA; sisters Jean Estep Horn of Toledo, OH and Geraldine Bryant of Waynesboro, VA; brothers Dallas "Junior" Richmond of Waynesboro, VA, JD Richmond of Batesville, VA, Eddie Richmond of Waynesboro, VA, and Bobby Richmond of Scottsville, VA.

A memorial service will be held to honor Rachel's life at 11:00 the morning of Saturday, April 4th at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, VA. All are welcome.
