May 7, 1931, to September 18, 2025
Our humble dad died this past Thursday, September 18, 2025, in his 94th year. He lived a full life yet left us much too soon. Professor Emeritus of the University of Virginia, Department of Civil Engineering, he wanted only a brief obituary that says little more, concluding his final wishes with this epigram: “A modest man never talks of himself.” Though we struggle not to say much more about his love, wisdom, and life-long service to his community, we honor his wishes with brevity.
His two children Ritchie and Anna Eppink survive him, along with his former spouse Leticia Ritchie Eppink; his sister-in-law Marge Eppink; his nephew Jim Eppink and his wife; and his niece Diane Quintero, her husband, and their children. Donations may be made to two of the organizations to which he devoted much of his life: the Civil Engineering Fund at the University of Virginia and Partner for Mental Health, in Charlottesville. No flowers!
