Obituary of Richard Louis Wright
Richard “Rick” Wright, 71, avid pool player, golfer, apple pie lover, best hugger, softball player, and Star Wars fan, went to be with the Lord on Thursday April 6, 2023, in Leesburg, Florida. Rick was born on April 28, 1951, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to Raymond Earl Wright Sr. and Margaret Marion Wright. Rick was predeceased by his parents and brother, Raymond Earl Wright, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Lindsey Elizabeth Wright Jones, whom he loved more than anything in the world (though his mom’s macaroni and cheese was a close second). He is also survived by the love of his life, Sharon Marie Ayers (Lindsey’s mom); two nephews (Earl and Eric); two nieces (Cathy and Lindsey); and special friend Margaret Thacker. Rick grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia, and proudly wore football jersey number 75 for one of the most winning teams in Lane’s history. After graduating from Lane High School in 1970, he worked full-time with his dad at their family-owned Barracks Road Texaco Station. In 2008, Rick escaped the Virginia winters by moving to Florida, where he wore shorts year-round, played in multiple pool leagues, and made many friends. To honor Rick, family and friends will gather on Sunday, April 16, from 4-6pm at Teague Funeral Home. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 17, at Teague Funeral Home, with the burial taking place directly after at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family also invites you to attend a celebration of his life on Sunday, April 30, from 2-6pm at the Elks Lodge Shelter in Charlottesville, Virginia. Flowers are certainly welcome; however, you might also consider shooting a game of pool, enjoying a piña colada, or watching the Rocky movies with him in mind. Rick would love that.
