Ruth Rogers

Ruth Ann Cook Rogers, 71, of Virginia, passed away at home surrounded by family on July 30, 2026. She was born on October 20, 1954, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Lynwood Cook and Shirley McCauley Cook.

Ruth was the wife of Charles Arthur Rogers, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on family, and caring for others.

She was a loving mother to Charles “Peanut” Rogers Jr., his wife Teresa, Matthew Rogers, his wife Heather, Lynwood Rogers, his wife Carrie, and Elizabeth Williams and her husband Adam. She was a proud grandmother to Jacob Baber, Hailey Rogers, Abigail Rogers, William Rogers, Skylar Rogers, Hunter Rogers, and Ivy Williams.

She is survived by her beloved sisters, Lynda Stephens, Pamela Patterson, Tammy Snow, and Katina Cook, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and the many children and families whose lives she touched over the years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Lynwood Cook and Shirley Cook, and her cherished grandson, Jacob Baber.

Ruth had a servant’s heart and dedicated much of her life to caring for others. For many years she lovingly babysat children in her home, helping raise generations of families who continued to think of her as part of their own. Later, she became a bus driver for Albemarle County Public Schools, where she faithfully served until her retirement. Whether caring for children in her home, or greeting students each morning on her bus, Ruth made every child feel seen, safe, and loved. She spoke often of “her kids,” long after they had grown, and remained in touch with many of them throughout her life.

Above all else, Ruth loved her family with her whole heart. She found her greatest joy in her children and grandchildren, and her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. She also had a special place in her heart for animals, whose companionship brought her endless happiness.

Those who knew Ruth will remember her for her generous spirit, her kindness, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she nurtured, encouraged, and loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the Crozet Sportsman Club at 2 o’clock. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable woman she was.
