Sandra Anne Freund

Sandra Anne Freund “Sandy” of New Market passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2017 in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is now reunited with her husband, Steve, her sister, Judy, her mother, Lois and father “Shorty”, and her grandparents in heaven. Sandy was born in 1947 in Coeburn, Virginia. Her family relocated to Norfolk, Virginia. She was a graduate of Maury High School. She began her career with the City of Norfolk and then transferred to Department of Defense and then the United States Postal Service. Sandy was a very loving mother and grandmother. Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Valerie Hodgkiss of Suffolk, Andrea Herring of Chesapeake, and Andrew Herring, Jr. “Bud” of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren, James Hodgkiss, III, Tyler Herring, Jeremy Hodgkiss, Starr Ambrose, KateLynn Hodgkiss, Drew Ambrose, Celeste Herring and Alex Herring; two sisters, Sharon and Margaret and a brother, “Tommy”. In addition, five nieces and four nephews. Sandy had a heart of gold along with a kind and giving nature and loving free spirit. Her love touched many, her presence will never fade and will be forever missed by her family and many friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
